The New Build Uganda 2009 |
This year the project will target clean water and sanitation in a number of different rural primary schools in Mubende District, Uganda. In Uganda, many rural primary schools do not have water available for drinking, hand washing or cooking on school compounds. Either children and teachers go without water all day, or pupils must go and fetch it from a local stream, well or pump, wasting precious learning time – and energy. And even, then the water may be dirty and unfit for drinking.
Many rural primary schools do not have enough decent toilets for the number of pupils – and poor toilets without washing facilities are a significant reason for pupils to drop out of school, especially teenage girls.
New Build Uganda 2009 will therefore help local communities to construct new rainwater harvesting tanks, latrines and washing facilities together with repairing and improving existing facilities.
All of the money raised will be spent directly in Uganda on building materials and local skilled labour. Large numbers of local volunteers will work alongside their UK counterparts to ensure that the building projects are complete successes!
Please help us to improve the lives of primary school children in rural Ugandan schools. |
